Understanding the indicators on the fiber media convertor

Source:www.sopto.com.cn

Fiber Media Convertor (FMC) is an ethernet transmission media conversion unit that exchanges short-distance twisted pair electrical signals and long-distance optical signals. FMC also provides a cheap solution for users who need to upgrade the system from copper wire to optical fiber. The function of the fiber is to convert the electrical signal we want to send into an optical signal and sent it out. At the same time, it can convert the received optical signal into an electrical signal and input it to our receiving end. The commonly used FMC has 6 indicator lights. What does each indicator mean?

100/100/1000Mbps SFP Fiber Media Convertor

1000M-Lit when the electrical link speed is 1000Mbps

100M-Lit when the electrical link speed is 100Mbps; and OFF when the electrical speed is 10Mbps

FX Link/ACT-Lit when the fiber port connection with remote device is good; and BLINKS when data is transmitting

TX Link/ACT-Lit when the RJ45 connection with the remote device is good; BLINKS when data is transmitting.

PWR-Lit when DC 5V power is ON

FDX-Lit when full-duplex mode is active on SFP

NOTE-When the FMC is operating normally, PWR indicator must be lit, FX-LINK/ACT fiber link indicator, TX-LINK/ACT network link pilot lights are steady or flashing. Thus, if LINK/ACT light is not present, you should be checking the corresponding link for connection issues (if any).

FX-stands for fiber, which supports 100Mbps (Megabits per second) data speed over optical fiber. It uses two stands of optical fiber viz., one for transmitting and the other one for receiving the light signal from TX.
