Bitmain unveils high efficiency S21 Rig
The ASIC manufacturer-Bitmain has recently unveiled a 16 joules per terahash mining rig/machine known as S21 series. This model has an efficiency rating under 20 joules per terahash (J/T) and produces between 200 TH/s and 335 TH/s.
Besides, Bitmain’s new mining rigs, the company has invested $54 million in the Core Scientific through a fresh supply contract-Core Scientific is a U.S based partner of Bitmain. Bitmain launches 2 new antminers viz., one machine employing hydro mining, and the other is air-cooled. The S21 Hyd achieves up to 335 TH/s at an efficiency rating of 16 J/T. On the other hand, the air-cooled S21 delivers up to 200 TH/s, with the efficiency rating around 17.5 J/T.
The earlier antminer S19, which was first released in May, 2020, is the base model of the S19 series, and the most popular variant produces 95 terahashes per second, while some S19s can produce the hashpower ranging from 84 TH/s up to 95 TH/s. The 95 TH model has the power consumption of 3250 watt, with an efficiency of 34.2 joules per terahash (J/TH).
It is known that, the Bitmain’s announcement about S21 comes after Canaan (CAN) unveiled its Avalon 1266 model, aiming to capitalize on what it expects will be even faster growth in the ASICs market. Avalon 1266 will have 100 terahash per second (TH/s), at an efficiency of 35 J/T. This model viz., 1266 is an improvement after the previous Avalon 1246, with 90 TH/s and 38 J/T efficiency. Nevertheless, only one of the models from Canaan, is liquid cooling machine, having 19.5 J/T efficiency; while Canaan’s air-cooled miner reaches 21.5 J/T.
Additionally, the competitor Microbt aims to launch a machine with an efficiency under 20 J/T. But, Microbt’s hydro-cooled M53S++ underperforms at 22 J/T, when compared to Bitmains hydro mining rig of 16 J/T.
